60s Eastside Flyers - Page 17

Below are cards provided by the three record stores on Whittier Blvd. in East Los Angeles in the 1960s.  The stores may have stayed open beyond that decade, but the 60s was the "Golden Age" of the "Eastside Sound" and Whittier Blvd. was at the heart of it.  All three stores were on the main strip for cruising from Ford Blvd on the west to Atlantic Blvd on the east.  On that strip we also shopped for our clothes and shoes and went to movies at one of the three theaters, the Boulevard, the Center, and the Golden Gate.  The record stores that we all went to were Story Music, the Record Inn, and the Record Rack.  At those stores we would buy the latest recordings by local East L.A. bands, as well as the other hits of the day.  The cards below were given for each 45 rpm record bought.  With ten cards we would get a free record.
